With the development of science and technology, higher and newer requirements are put forward for instruments. The development trend of instruments and meters is to constantly use new working principles, new materials and new components, such as ultrasonic, microwave, ray, infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, superconductivity, laser and other principles, as well as various new semiconductor sensitive components, integrated circuit, integrated optical path, optical fiber and other components. Its purpose is to realize the miniaturization of instruments, reduce the weight, reduce the production cost and make it easier to use and maintain. Another important trend is to improve the performance of instruments and meters through the use of microcomputers, so as to improve the automation, intelligence and data processing ability of instruments and meters. The instrument is not only for single use, but also may be combined with electronic computer through standard interface and data channel to form a variety of test control management integrated system to meet higher requirements.

"At present, most of China's scientific research instruments rely on imports. Due to research needs, many instruments need to be processed and developed with new functions. However, due to the small amount of processing, foreign enterprises are often reluctant to receive them. Even if they do, they will delay the research process for a long time. After the establishment of the center, it will combine the development of instruments with the needs of various scientific research institutions and serve the basic research. " Xu Tao, director of the life science instrument technology innovation center of Beijing Institute of life sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said at the recent founding conference.

Xu Tao pointed out that instrument innovation is of great significance to the progress of science and technology in China. Always buy foreign equipment for research, in rhythm than others slow a few beats. Many foreign high-level laboratories have specialized instrument R & D teams. When scientists find a way, the instruments they need can also be developed quickly, which enables them to stay at the forefront of scientific research. China's scientific and technological achievements are at the forefront, which also needs the innovation of instruments and equipment.

Cang Huaixing, deputy director of the center, said that CAS has many large-scale regional service centers for instruments, but there is only one innovation center dedicated to instrument creation. The innovation center itself is not an entity, but a dynamic management organization centered on the project, which plays a coordinating role in the development of instruments and equipment. When the work of researchers is limited by instruments and equipment, they can find the innovation center and put forward their needs. The innovation center organizes and coordinates experts from various research institutes and even the whole country to form a team to research and develop the technical functions needed. If the developed equipment is widely used, it can be used as a separate instrument development project to apply for national support.

Liu Zhijie, a researcher at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that scientists are mainly limited by two factors in their research: one is the method, the other is the instrument. With methods but no instruments, research still can not make a breakthrough, which is also the driving force of instrument innovation. One third of the Nobel Prize winning projects are the innovation of instruments, means and tools. But as a researcher, if he meets the limitation of the function of the instrument, he often doesn't know who to look for, because he doesn't know what other research institutes have. Therefore, the integration and coordination mechanism of the center is very important for instrument development.
